Vastu in Sanskrit means nature , a surrounding or environment.The word "Vaasthu" came from Vasthu , denoting anything existing such as house, shelter,building etc.Shastra in sanskrit means systems.Vastu shastra is an ancient art and science,containing principles and practises of constructing buildings which ensures a harmonious balance between man and nature and thereby bring all round happiness,health,wealth and prosperity.
Vastu Shastra is voluminous and scattered ancient Indian literature dealing with knowledge of architecture, iconography and art relating to structures and buildings. It comprises of independent works which are classified under the general heading of Vastu Shastra. It is an ancient practice to construct buildings in harmony with natural forces for well being of humanity as a whole. It is rich Hindu philosophy which is given in number of ancient works including Vedas. Vedas or sacred lore are considered to have reached us directly in the form of hymns or mantras.
 
  Vastu and Numerology in Daily Life
Man's quest for health and happiness has been rewarded by Nature in various forms. The evolution thereof is a never-ending process, though the momentum, depending on several factors, keeps on changing.' Vastu' is one of such forms.Vastu Shastra is the sublime elucidation of your surrounding and their influence on your life. Vastu literally means " house" or Dwelling Place and its principles establish to create a harmony between the fine elements viz. Earth, Sky, Fire, Water and Air in the environment.
   
 
  Vastu and Directions
 
As per the Vastu rules, while constructing a building it must be located in such a way that it receives the maximum benefit from the solar and cosmic energies. Thus the orientation attains a vital part. The various directions are:
 

North, South, East, West, NorthEast, NorthWest, SouthEast and SouthWest. Every corner is again divided into 2 sides. Namely:

NorthEast - East North EastNorth North East
SouthEast - East South East South South East
NorthWest - West North WestNorth North West
SouthWest - South South West West South West

The NorthEast corner is stated to receive the cosmic energy, which is a combination of energy from different planets apart from sun, in abundance. And from there it moves in the opposite direction i.e to the SouthWest.

 
  Vastu Tips
 

Your head should be towards the east or south while sleeping.
There should be no noise while opening the doors and windows especially the entrance door.
Shoes and slippers should not be scattered all over the house, as this leads to feud.
Don’t keep dirty clothes with the washed clothes.
Don’t a keep jug or jar of water near the telephone. The electric rays produced from telephone leave bad effect on the water.
Keep cash and jewellry in the safe or locker which opens in the north.
Your face should be towards the east while cooking food. The cupboard containing food articles should be towards your right.
Place vegetables in a dish after cutting them. If they are kept on floor their nourishing
Change the bed-sheets during day time.
Comb and other beauty aids should be kept neatly at the right place.
There should be a separate towel for every member of the family and for guests.
Change the night suit before 8 o’clock in the morning.
It is very auspicious to view rising sun after taking bath in the morning.
